Today we’re riding the Durango Silverton train! (Mr Charley found a doggy daycare for the girls)

But yesterday, we went to the Mesa Verde National Park! So, after seeing all the different mountainous terrains, colors, shapes and sizes, let me tell you; riding up tothe top and driving around was awesome! Let me back up and explain what I’m talking about, because I had no idea either 🤷🏻‍♀️.
Mesa means:

Verde means “green” (in many languages)

So, the Mesa Verde is a large, green, flat topped hill (in this case mountain). It’s HUGE and was created to preserve the archaeological heritage of the Ancestral Pueblo people, atop the mesas and in cliff dwellings.
I’ve got pics!!
This is what you see from the road when driving by:

And, this is what you see driving up:

The Pueblo people lived up here in cliff dwellings (they’ve found over 600 dwellings)

There are trails and paths you can walk to get closer to some of them. And, wouldyou believe there are houses & condos on top to stay in!

I don’t know my dessert plants, but I’m sure you can eat the fruit from these:

The highest point was 8500 ft

And look what’s up here!

They hunted up here (we didn’t see any wildlife) and, grew gardens of squash and corn. It was pretty cool.

You can see the road along the mountainside that we’re driving:

And the fall colors are starting

It was a good ride. Yes, I got my hat pin. And, yes, there were people getting their “selfies” at the sign 🤦🏻‍♀️

But it was well worth the drive.

I think of my grandkids when I go to some of our National Parks, what history and life lessons they have the privilege to enjoy in our beautiful country. I wish I had even thought about visiting our National Parks when my kids were growing up. 😥
We’re blessed to live in such a wonderful country with such beautiful sights to see.You would be surprised how many people we see that are from other countries who come to America for their vacations to visit these parks.

We’re thankful and blessed. ☺️

Have a good one everybody, we’re sure trying to.
