But..... yesterday we did YOSEMITE!!!
It was awesome! The scenery may even be better that Yellowstone, well, that’s what Mr Charley said.🤷🏻♀️
It was a long drive (over 100 miles one way), but totally worth it! We took US-95 S out of town to NV-359 which turns into CA-120 when you cross the state line.
We left really early, like 5:00ish, so it was still dark. The GPS said it would take 2 1/2 hrs, so we wanted to head out as early as possible.
I did get to see a beautiful sunrise, though!
It lightened up as we drove down that long deserted road ....,
When we made it to MONO LAKE it was gorgeous!
The purple looking cloud is really SMOKE! They had a lightning strike sometime, so this is a controlled burn.
So we continued on
This is the route we’re taking:
We made it to Yosemite by 6:40 am! Thatol’ “BB” in the box (GPS) doesn’t know what she’s talking about. 🤦🏻♀️
Luckily, this is a National Park that is open 24 hours (they have a lot of campgrounds), so we could go right in. There was a note that said “pay as you leave”, but with my Sr Pass, it’s free anyway! 😁
Here’s some pics along the way:
And this was just the way in! We climbed to over 9,000 feet and El Capitan was stillhigher than that.
Although it’s only 3,000 feet tall, the elevation is at over 9,000 feet to get to it
This is the view out the sunroof
It was a pretty cool ride.
See that lone tree growing up there! Talk about tenacity, what a life lesson. ☺️
This is one of the many lakes here
Of course, these pics are just a drop in the bucket of what we’ve seen today. We did see a herd of Elk in the meadow, and lots of signs about speed kills bears, but we didn’t see any bears or mountain lions or anything else. That’s OK, though the scenery made up for it.
We finally made it to a visitor center, but there was nowhere to park, so we made itto the Park Store. They had a T-Shirt & hat pin, so I was happy. I can’t believe how busy this place is, every campground had “Full” signs posted. And, lots of peoplewere hiking.
As we were making our way back out, wefound a good picnic spot (away from the crowds)
The girls were happy to sniff around for awhile afterwards.
This was posted there
It was a nice ride out and back home.
Here’s Mono Lake on the way back
And, the long ride back to Hawthorne
And, always watching for these
And these
It was a great day and we’re blessed ☺️
Have a good one everybody, we’re sure trying to.
