After the disappointment of the ride to Pikes Peak, we decided to take a nice scenic drive yesterday, so we chose the Gold Belt Byway. This drive takes the scenic route through the Ute Pass through Colorado’s gold country, that connected the mining districts to each other. It was a BEAUTIFUL drive!
We passed through Cascade, CO & I sawa sign for Bust, CO, population 2. I didn’t get a good pic, so I Googled & found this one.
Did you know there’s a cute little town called Divide, CO?
We made a pit stop in Florissant, CO at the National Monument of fossil beds.
I love these back road rides! We even saw some wildlife, check it out!
We almost hit a skunk! I think we scared him enough to spray a little, because when we stopped a little later we could smell it. Isn’t this beautiful country! The perfect log home with the awesome scenery

It was a long winding road with gorgeousscenery & some nice surprises. When weturned down into Cripple Creek, we found an awesome town with lots of shops & casinos!

Totally worth the drive! We wheedled our way down & around & ended up near the Royal Gorge and Canon City. There’s so much more to say and lots more pics to share, but this blog only lets me post so many.
If you remember yesterday I said there were 2 main reasons we came back to Colorado Springs. Although we didn’t get to replace Mr Charley’s Pikes Peak mug (he’ll continue using his AK one), tonight we have reservations for the Juniper Valley Ranch for the best fried chicken & fixins EVER! We happened on it last time we were here (my 60th bday) and have always talked about going back. (If you’ve ever eaten at The Dillard House in Dillard GA, this place is WAY BETTER!
Tomorrow we head to Casper, WY. Have a good one everybody, we’re sure trying to.
