06/24/2019 Day 15 Casper, WY

So excited! Today we head out to Cody, WY, for the next couple of weeks.
But......let me tell you about yesterday’s ride we took, first.
The cold, rainy, yucky day we woke up toturned into a beautiful, cool but sunny day, so Mr. Charley said “let’s take a ride”
The “girls” and I jumped up & said “let’s go”!  Well, maybe not that way, but you know what I mean.

We drove down Hwy 220, to Indepence Rock and a drive around Alcova Lake.

Here’s some pics from the drive along the way:
I love reading signs

This is Independence Rock (see the people up top). Early pioneers carved their names in it.

Independence Rock also known as the Register of the Desert for the more than 5,000 names that are carved in it. The Rock received its name after an Independence Day celebration with a group of pioneers who made it to the site by July 4 back in 1824. The name stuck and became a landmark and goal of the more than 550,000 westward travelers. The Rock is approximately 136 feet high, 1900 feet long and 850 feet wide.
Starting the trail in the early spring, emigrants along the Oregon Trail hoped to reach Independence Rock by July 4, Independence Day. It was used by the Pony Express as a landmark along the way. It was pretty cool!

This is one of those “Wowoming”  surprises I love. You go for miles driving along passing thousand acre ranches, then “Wow” look at that mountain& lake! This lake covers over 2,500 acres! It’s a pretty awesome sight.

Stopped off at Dairy Queen on the way back & got the girls a “pup cup”. Dinner out at Old Chicago for a reallygood pizza, so Mr C didn’t have to cook. And, I got a pic of the first sunset I’ve seen in Casper.
