Who knew St Joe, MO had such history? The Pony Express began here, Jesse James was killed here, and Walter Cronkite was born here; among other things.
We went to tour Jesse James Home & right next door the Patee House Museum which was an old hotel and the Pony Express Headquarters.
It was pretty interesting. I had no idea they exhumed Jesse James 3 different times& actually ran DNA tests to prove it was his body buried. I also had no idea Walter Cronkite was born here & that his dad was a prominent dentist here. The Patee House Museum was fantastic. They had a lot of memorabilia & rooms full of old history from toys to all kinds of instruments. They also had rooms set up as old hardware stores, pharmacy, beauty shop and many others. It was pretty cool to see how things were back then.
I’ve got a lot of pics, but I’ll just throw a few out here so you can get the general idea.
All in all, it was a pretty good day for being so dreary & rainy.
Tomorrow we head to KS, which is the halfway spot to CO. We have reservations at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs for a few days. Will keep you posted as we move onward to Cody.
Have a good one everybody, we’re sure trying to.
There's also a mental hospital museum in St. Joe. I'm glad I visited it, but it was depressing when you think of the way people were treated.
