Holiday RV Park is pretty nice, the sites could be a little wider, but they are definitely long enough to unhook & still park the truck. We have a small patch of grass, gravel site, set across the street from Bear Creek. We were greeted with fresh baked cookies and an invitation to enjoy the temperature controlled swimming pool. The day was beautiful, sunny and upper 80’s. ❤️ my kind of weather. Once we set up, we kicked back for the rest of the day. The pool was tempting, but.........
The ride was longer than we try to make, but we’re ready to get out of the Portland area & make our way to CA.
Here’s some pics from the drive:
From a distance, I thought the leaves were changing and Fall was coming, but a closer look shows fire damage. I’m not sure if it was a “controlled burn” or the remnants of previous wildfires.
I’m a sign reader, and I always comment on the “size of the horns” on the wildlife signs. Well, I had to Google the wildlife of OR and this explains why the horns are so big, Roosevelt Elk, who knew🤷🏻♀️
I also wonder how places get their names. “Jump Off Joe Creek” 😂😂
Here’s the story behind it: “Returning to camp one night, McLoughlin fell in the dark from a rocky bluff. He survived, but was seriously injured with blood gushing from his mouth, and the expedition sent word to his father that his son had suffered a “pulmonary attack.” McLoughlin returned to Fort Vancouver, but never completely recovered from his injuries, dying in 1848 at age 38.
And, Grants Pass:

How about Drain, OR:
We’re now driving on the CA Trail, as the settlers trudged over the mountains towards CA and the Gold Rush.

I can’t imagine how they did it without a Ford F-350 Platinum, but God Bless them for trying.

It was a long drive, but Mr Charley handled it like an old pro. As he maneuvered the mountains (and traffic) we both said “I love that engine brake” many times along the way. We both have a huge respect for Truckers, not only dealing with road conditions, but dealing with crazy drivers!
Today, we’ll do a nice road trip to Crater Lake. It’s finally getting daylight, so it’s time to hit the road!
Have a good one everybody, we’re sure trying to.
