Sifting through all those pics

Osens RV Campground – Livingston, MT

As I mentioned in previous posts, I had over 500 pictures from our “Day in Yellowstone” that I had to sift through. Before I could get going on it, I had a lot of system updates & changes that I had to make first, because this thing’s been running like a dog. Kudos to this campground because their Wi-Fi is pretty good. I also have been able to re-install this Open Live Writer app that allows me to write these blog posts “offline” before publishing “online”. But, the biggest and probably BEST THING I think I’ve done is install PCMatic. It scanned, cleaned up & optimized this machine better than I could've done on my own!  It took most of yesterday getting this stuff installed, updated and run, but well worth the time, since I AM NOT STRESSED out editing these pics and/or writing this blog. YEAH!
Now, for the blog……Previously, I had posted lots of pics of the ride to Yellowstone, just so you can see the awesomeness of this land. I can only imagine the awe Lewis & Clark must’ve seen & tried to explain in it’s natural, uninhabited state way back then. As I said before, everyone needs to try to see Yellowstone at least once in their lifetime. If you can’t get here, then go online and look at the magnificence of this place.
With only one day here, we only caught a small amount, but well worth it. We came in through the North Entrance outside of Gardiner, MT. I also must note if you are ever going to tour Yellowstone (or numerous other US/Canada sites) download Gypsy Guide Apps. This app navigates by GPS (not your cell data), and is just like having your own personal tour guide along the way. I bought it our last trip out here, had deleted it from my phone & downloaded the updated version before we left. (You need Wi-fi to get the app installed, but that’s it)
I blue toothed my phone to the stereo system in the truck & followed the little blue dot on the screen as we got closer to the park. The little Gypsy Guide started talking to let us know what was coming up, the history behind the park and all kinds of stuff that made the ride more enjoyable.
As we crossed over the Yellowstone River, the first thing we saw was the Roosevelt Arch, built in 1903.

Once we got up to the gate entrance, I was PROUD to hand the Ranger my newly acquired Sr. Pass (saving us $30 entrance fee )
Note here, the North Entrance is at 5314 ft. elevation.  We headed in winding along the river up on Loop Road towards the Mammoth Hot Springs Terraces. With only 1 day here, this ‘tour’ will cover most of  the hot springs, geysers, “artist paintpots” and Old Faithful, along with lots of awesome mountain peaks and wildlife sightings.
Bear with me, I won’t be able to do this all in 1 post, but here’s some of the best pics I took:
NOTE: The white  you see is NOT SNOW! These are hot springs on a hill of travertine (white or light colored calcareous rock deposited from mineral springs)

This is the “Liberty Cap” towering rock of travertine

Last time we were here, we did walk around the springs (notice the great walkways), but we chose to continue on riding since we only have the 1 day here. This is why I want my babies to come out next year so we can take the time to explore the awesomeness of this place.
So, we drove on….

Just a few more pics since I don’t know Blogger limitations, then I’ll start on another one.
These will be of some of the other hot springs & small geysers that are all around :

That’s it for now, I have a few hundred other pics to sift through & a few little videos but I don’t think I can upload here.

Have a good one everybody, we’re sure trying to.

We drove to Yellowstone today!!!

If you remember from the last post, we had a pleasant surprise when we realized that Gardiner, MT is bout 50 miles up the road from Livingston. Gardiner is one of the 5 different entrances to Yellowstone National Park.
We packed a lunch and hit the road early this morning for an awesome adventure. This is Mr.Charley’s 4th or 5th time here, and my 2nd; but we were both so excited to go again, you’d think it was the first time. All I can say is if you’ve never been, you need to go. If you can’t go, then Google, You Tube , Netflix whatever is available so you can see how awesome this place is.
I am planning on driving back here next summer, hopefully with my grandchildren (& great grand). I think it will be a great experience for them (& me); and their parents can fly out & join us. It beats a week at the beach anytime.
Well, needless to say I took a TON of pics, 500 to be exact, so it’s going to take me a while to sift through them.
The drive itself was absolutely beautiful, so I will leave you with these:

As you can see, it was a beautiful ride. If you think this is cool, wait until you see Yellowstone!
Have a good one everybody, we’re sure trying to.

Had a little scare but then what a great surprise

Osens RV Campground – Livingston, MT

We left Rocker this morning on our way to Livingston, MT. Livingston is about 25 miles from Bozeman, for Mr.Charley’s eye shot this Friday.
The ride was nice, weather was sunny and bright; sky was still smoky from the wildfires, but it wasn’t smoky smelling so that was good.
Here’s some pics from the ride, forgive the smoky sky, but just imagine how majestic the land is:
IMG_1750IMG_1760IMG_1763IMG_1765IMG_1794IMG_1797IMG_1800IMG_1825IMG_1828IMG_1829
I am always trying to keep my eyes peeled when we’re riding (as I’m sure you’ve figured out by now). I look at the scenery, look for wildlife, read the signs and keep a peak at the traffic. While we were riding today, I saw a big animal in the distance and it wasn’t a cow or horse (which is what we’ve been seeing), it was black but not huge like a bear, it looked like a BIG CAT! By the time my brain registered that is was a BIG CAT (like a panther), it was too late to get a picture. My mind kept rewinding to be sure what I thought I saw is what I saw (we are going 60+ MPH), but Mr.Charley saw it too, so I know what I thought I saw is what I really saw.
Now for the scare we had today……We made a rest stop along the way pulling off to a turnout along the highway to let the girls get out & stretch. Well, nosey Cheyenne will always ‘wander’ around & track whatever scent she picks up on. She doesn’t go far, she just loves to be “nosey” and see what’s out there. Well, this time she was wandering through some high prairie grass and when she came back out to load up, she kept shaking her head like something was in her ear. When I tried to look & see if she had anything in there (like a bug or something) she yelped like it hurt her. We looked and looked and couldn’t see anything, but she kept shaking her head to get it out. Well, long story short, we were about an hour away from Livingston, so I Googled to see if there was a Vet in town. There was quite a few,  but I found one near the campground we were heading to. When I called to see if they take ‘walk-ins’ and explained what was wrong her first question was “has she been wandering through prairie grass?”. I was so impressed that she figured that out without me telling her that I told her we were on the way & would be there in an hour or so. She said no problem,  bring her in around 3 & they’ll look at her. Once we landed, Mr.Charley took her over there, they had to knock her out since she wouldn’t let them get it, but they took out 2 little “feathers” from the grass & cleaned out her other ear. She’s fine now and has some drops to put in for the next few days. Bless her heart, she sure was pitiful trying to clear her head.
And now for the great surprise…… Since we decided we would head back home earlier than planned, we cancelled plans to go to Yellowstone. Well, on the way back from dinner, Mr.Charley had mentioned we must not be too far from Yellowstone since there were so many signs about it. Would you believe that Livingston, MT is only about 50+ miles to Gardiner, MT. another entrance into Yellowstone! So, guess where we’re going tomorrow! Yep, early morning ROAD TRIP!
So, it’s been another long, but great day. Good weather, safe travels, bypassing wildfires, Cheyenne is OK and we’re going to Yellowstone! I’m blessed and thankful.
Have a good one everybody, we’re sure trying to.
