It’s Friday and we’re heading to Cody, WY!!!Why you ask (since we’ve been there before)? Because some of our babies are flying in tomorrow so we can show them YELLOWSTONE National Park!!! (My favorite place)
Yesterday we drove into Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Our Campground is located really close to the South Unit Entrance. I showed pictures from the “painted canyon” rest area off I-94. Luckily, the “visitor center” was open there, because we left really early to drive in nobody was at the entrance gate. (Open at 9:00). Of course, with my Sr Pass it’s “free”, but for others it’s $30 entrance fee. (I guess they’re losing a lot of money) Here’s some pics from our ride:
Wild Horses
Wild Horses!
Buffalo!
Lots of Buffalo (but Mr C corrected me & said it’s a herd) (eye roll )
I made him ride up Buck hill to see if there was any
I saw one! Didn’t get a good shot, but it had a nice rack!
We followed these guys down the road for at least 10 minutes before they finally moved off.
And lots of “prairie dogs”!!!! After we drove through (it’s only 16 miles in) we drove to the North Unit Entrance. That’s was about 150 mile (round trip)! It’s a “quieter” part of the park, but lots of bathrooms and picnic areas. We had packed a picnic and enjoyed the “empty” area. The girls loved being loose, and “wallering” in the grass. Here’s some pics of this part:

I can’t imagine going to the ladies room and having a bison waiting outside!!!

So, all in all I don’t know that I’d pay $30 to get in, but it was a nice ride. I think Yellowstone has me spoiled, and so does my National Park Sr Pass!
Check out this rig we saw at the top of the North Unit drive:

They’ve got it all set up! Long drive back home, but it makes you appreciate the history of our country. The historic markers of the Ukrainian Immigrants, the story of Theodore Roosevelt coming from NY to WY to hunt Buffalo, and years later when he was President he remembered the land here and made it a National park to preserve it. The town of Medora was named after the wife of a French nobleman who came here. It’s pretty hard to imagine how it was back then and what they accomplished to build the places we see today. Went out to dinner in downtown Medora. It’s a pretty cool little town, lots of shops and a couple of restaurants. With a population of 120 (back in 2020 census), this place was hopping! We got back and started “getting ready to get ready”. It’s 4:30 a.m., I guess my body thinks it’s 6:30 (since we’re 2 hours behind east coast).

Now on to Cody and Yellowstone!!!!
Have a good one everybody.
