07/11/2023 -Day 26 Wakefield, MI Sunday Lake RV Campground

It’s Tuesday and we’re in Wakefield,MI. We were in Allouez, MI BUT…….Sunset Bay RV Resort and Campground is NOT a “resort”. And, it’s a campground BUT the 50amp FHU site we had wasn’t big enough to fit our rig; had a BIG tree right in front of the site so we couldn’t cut it enough to back in; the sewer hookup was on the left (way back); BUT the water & electric were on the RIGHT!!  When I went back to the office luckily the lady who “escorted” us was still there fixing to leave. I told her just keep my deposit ($40) don’t charge the rest because we were leaving! She was nice and apologized , called the “owner” to see if there was another site we could move to (they were “full”, but quite a few empty sites). He was driving by to head to town, asked what the problem was, got pretty nasty, CUSSED at me and told me  “he’s never had a problem with that site in years and if we didn’t like it to get the hell out”!

Well, we left and started heading to MN (our next stop). Along the way Amazon notified me they delivered my package back at that campground! (I totally forgot we had one coming there). We meandered along whatever road (no Interstates along the “Lake Superior Circle Tour”) M-28 and US 2 are relatively decent but we did hit some bumpy sections and one lane road construction. It was a LONG drive! Along the way (when I had cell service) I was looking for another campground. They don’t have many “privately owned” campgrounds up here. Most are state and county parks. They have small sites, lots of trees and usually no hookups. We were resigned to stay over in a “rest area”, but they don’t have them on these roads. They do have “roadside stops” which are nice enough but Mr C wasn’t willing to stop too early since it’s so light outside. We came up to a nice little town that had a big “Sunday Lake Campground” sign and I tried calling. It is a City Owned park on Sunday Lake (230 acre lake!). I finally found a number (no website) and Thank God, “Jim” answered with a strong pleasant voice, said yes he did have a concrete slab pull-thru with full hookups we could stay in. He even had waterfront back-in sites, but Mr C said get the pull thru. We were tired, stressed and we’re ready to get off the road. We circled back around and when we pulled up “Jim” was sitting at “his office” (table overlooking lake” and ready to get us checked in. We were ready ! In fact, I booked us for 3 nights so we could recoup and see about getting our commode fixed. (When the black tank flush ran over, it made the flush ball not seal properly so the water won’t stay in the bowl). Anyway, we got up early (had the wet towels in the dryer by 6:00 am, pulled out of Pictured Rocks by 8:00, stopped at the cleanest, nicest WalMart in Marquette to replenish some groceries, hit CVS so Mr C can refill his inhaler (that smoky air along the way has played a number on him), then headed to “Sunset Bay” (got there by noon) then left and headed here!) we landed around 5:30 then realized  we had a Time Zone change and lost an hour. Our bodies thought it was 6:30 (no wonder we were so tired). We’re fine, we’re safe, we’re warm, dry, clean. Have plenty of food and water, but we’re ready to move on to our next adventure once we rest a few days. https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1tlbxcoYJcRYHvxPpHXQMHpvCRq80tCuD

I was searching for a place to land the rest of the drive. Needless to say I didn’t get my beautiful “sunset” I was planning on. But, here’s a pic of my morning view: https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1OGntPLXMJYdvb-lLHrxQ1jpx6M1HfuNd
It’s ALWAYS an Adventure!  (I apologize for lengthy post, punctuation and unedited pics just had to get it out so I can “let it go”)
Have a good one everybody!
