It’s Thursday and we’re in MICHIGAN! And…:we did it! We went to Mackinac Island! Lord have mercy, talk about “organized chaos!” We got to the Ferry port about 8:00 am to catch the 8:30 boat over to the Island. It was real nice around the pier. I love these flower boxes! And the waterfront views.

We boarded and sat up top to check it out. It was a nice ride, a little chilly (forgot my jacket), but not raining! We arrived on schedule and followed to crowd down the street to see what to do. We walked a little, most of the shops were not open yet, so we decided the best thing for us was to ride in the horse drawn carriage to get a “guided tour”.

It would be a lovely place, but….with over 600 horses pulling carriages around town, there is TONS of horse poop along the streets! I don’t understand why they don’t use the “poop bags” on them like they do in Charleston. The horses are beautiful and seem to be well treated (we stopped to rest them many times along the way).

Our first stop we departed the 2 horse drawn carriage to a 3 horse carriage. There were some little shops to walk around in (everything was pretty pricey), but I did buy a fridge magnet and a hat pin. Then……the rain started! They rolled down the sides on the carriage and we trekked on through the forest of trees through the State Park. There’s a lot of foliage, a $500 fine PER FLOWER picked in the park! We didn’t get out to see Arch Rock, but I Googled it! Here’s some more pics of our tour.

Did I mention there’s no cars?!? Besides the horse drawn carriages, there’s bikes everywhere! And, God Bless the masses walking the streets avoiding the poop and bikes! There isn’t sidewalks along ALL the streets. By the time the “tour” was over, the streets and shops were packed, so we headed to the ferry to go home. The rain had stopped and the ferry back was a pleasant ride. It was an experience and we’re glad we went. It’s one of those places Mr Charley identifies as “going to twice in one day; my first and last” LOL!
Debbie joined us out to dinner, and our TX neighbors met us there. ( Deb’s heading to Pictured Rocks today). I tried a PASTIE! For my FL family, it’s kinda like an Empanata. It’s ground beef with diced potatoes and rutabaga in a pastry crust Thank God they give you gravy on the side, cause it’s pretty dry. But it was good! Today we’re going down to the shops in St Ignace ( pronounced Ignis). I’ve gotta buy a MI T-shirt. We head out tomorrow, so tonight we eat out so Mr C doesn’t have to cook (& I don’t have to clean up!)
Have a good one everybody.
