08/05/2023 - Day 50 & 51 Colorado Springs, CO USAF ACADEMY PEREGRINE PINES FAMCAMP

It’s Saturday and we’re in Colorado Springs, CO!

The beauty of retirement and full-time RV’ing is the ability to do absolutely nothing in a different “yard”  anytime. Hopefully, that’s what we’re going to do today. (Other than maybe go to the Commissary and get some groceries). https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=12WI8kYOTbb6PqOe5ephA_288aZPHYOTF
Yesterday, we got the next “legs” of our trip planned out and reservations made. The main concern was where we would be Labor Day weekend. So, getting Mr Charley to put a plan together as to where we’ll go and how long we’ll be there isn’t an easy task!  But, we did it! The decisions were made, RV Parks found, reservations made and Calendars were updated. It’s an exhausting process but it’s good to know where we’ll be heading to when we head out. https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1HchEkIbBtQrM0_isnjFtuIO9a7g2oBY7
We had dinner reservations at Juniper Valley Ranch. This place is FANTASTIC! https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1JLAUuOFRxfjQwbXKnexgijcKvFtZOUdk The BEST fried chicken dinner served family style. We somehow found it the first time we came to Colorado Springs and we’ve come back each time. It’s all fresh homemade fixins from the ranch. Riced potatoes, gravy, cole slaw, okra casserole (something new I think they used to serve green beans) biscuits and apple butter. Some type of chicken curry soup and a dessert. They’ve changed up the veggies, but the chicken is DELICIOUS!  I’ve never seen Mr Charley enjoy a meal more than he does here. https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1g37EDnATkz-YPx7XGVG4K24OOzfph5A0
They’re widening the road (CO 115) it’s on and I’m afraid (like everything else) it may be the beginning of the end of the ranchers/farmers here. We didn’t see any wildlife on our drive (there and back) like we always did. I blame the construction, but maybe it’s just the time. Anyway, we passed by Cheyenne mountain and Fort Carson https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1At2iPfFV4JWpav9lf9_l9jAvpHMuB8Gz

And, as we were heading back I noticed there wasn’t as many “street people” as last time, but as we got closer to town I was wrong. It’s so sad to see how many homeless people live on the streets. Most of them are young and quite able to live differently if they really wanted to. When it’s an older veteran, my heart breaks with how our country has failed them. https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1WyYJuXf584oqPjTSAIWklC05AIwzs1MP
I’m so thankful my Mama raised us to work hard and survive in spite of our circumstances. I’m truly blessed to be able to travel as we do, but it’s also sad to “see” some of the things we see. So, as long as the Lord allows, we’re gonna keep on keepin on. https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1Ly0tXeFSNePHx1g2udVw7qqB6WYTvBRU
Those cans of oxygen we bought have been a life saver for Mr Charley! It’s saved him from having to use that Albuterol inhaler, which has helped his shaky hands A LOT!  But……we both agreed that Hot Air Balloon ride we had scheduled is probably NOT a good idea right now. Between his shortness of breath and my bum foot, it’s about all we can handle to just get by.  So, I cancelled it. That’s about it for today. We’re alive and well and sipping coffe watching the sunrise. Can’t ask for more than that.
Have a good one everybody.
