Calgary West Campground
Well…………….once again, plans must be set in JELLO!
Have I told you that most campgrounds up here (both Canada & Alaska) are very TIGHT (other than wonderful Fort Richardson, Black Spruce). We were worried how we would get out since our neighbor next door had slides VERY close to our front end. (They make these sites with one facing forward with hookups to their left & the other facing forward from the other side with their hookups to their left, sharing the “middle” post for power & water). Since we were going to leave early Thursday morning, we were anxious about how we were going to pull out, since it is a VERY TIGHT TURN (even for Mr.Charley). Well, thankfully those folks left and as soon as I was going to fix Mr.Charley a little lunch and hoping for some ‘down time’ before we had to leave again. Then, lo and behold we got another NEW NEIGHBOR! This rig was even bigger (a 5er with 4 slides) who was staying the whole week. Mr.Charley went up to the office and they offered to let us move to the back lot, which has water & power but no sewer. Not a problem, we just emptied the tanks & got set to move. We moved and got set up, by now it’s getting near 3:00 & we have to get back over to the glass place before they close. We decided to bring the girls & just get something to eat & bring back. Would you believe on the way there a car/truck went by and THREW A ROCK THAT DINGED THE BRAND NEW WINDSHIELD!?!?!??! It wasn’t that big, but that’s not the point! All we could do was laugh or one of us was gonna lose it! Mr.Charley’s favorite line is “It’s an Adventure”, but we both couldn’t believe it.
When we get to the glass place, Mr.Charley went in & told Barb (the owners wife that had taken such good care of him) what had happened, ribbing her that if they hadn’t left his antenna off he wouldn’t have had to drive back over here & get dinged. She laughed & told him they would fix it free, but we’d have to wait until their guy got back (about 20 minutes). Since he hasn’t eaten yet, we decided to go find a drive thru so he can get something (so much for our dinner out). By the time we got through the traffic & drive-thru it was after 4, so we headed back & ate in the parking lot until they could take us back. Around 4:30, we drove around back & got to watch the fella fix that dinged glass, we were out of there by 4:45; just in time for rush hour traffic. Boy that was fun, needless to say by the time we got back we were exhausted. We kicked back & watched a little TV (did I mention Mr.Charley’s satellite doesn’t work in this back lot), but luckily he had some shows recorded. By 8:30 we were trying hard to stay awake, luckily we had Mr.Charley’s warm brownies & homemade ice cream to wake us up. LOL!
Even though I was ready to leave a day early, we decided to stay today (as planned), finish the laundry & head out early in the morning. At least I’ll get to use up some more of my Loonies & quarters before we cross back over. I’m sure I can give the extras to my Canadian buddies when we winter in Florida.
Yes, it is an adventure, but not necessarily the kind I signed up for.
Have a good one everybody, we’re sure trying to.
RV Riding is adapting to whatever situation you find yourself in, but still thankful you’re there
Wouldn't it be nice, if at the border, they had a collection for charities for people that wanted to get rid of their Canadian money.
