Peter D’s RV Park Sheridan, WY
Well, I’ve been slack again, but nothing big has been happening. You know, after Yellowstone, the rest is just gravy. So, let me catch up on what’s been going on.After Mr. Charley got his eye shot in Bozeman, MT; we had reservations to go back to Fort Harrison in Helena to get through the rest of the month & past Labor Day weekend. Well, that was the plan, anyway. For those of you who haven’t heard, there is some really bad wildfires burning in MT (and now, Oregon & California). The smoke wasn’t that bad in Livingston/Bozeman area, but as we made our way back to Helena, it was pretty smoky. I kept Googling the wildfire locations and even though there were a couple of fires “near Helena”, there were no evacuations in Helena, so we went on & checked in to the camp.( I really like this place, since the laundry is FREE and the sites are nice). After a few days, we noticed the smoke was getting worse (really smoky smelling and thicker), and I couldn’t even stand to sit outside for very long, my eyes were burning so bad. Anyway, we decided to leave earlier than planned, if we could find some open campgrounds along the way.
One of our “neighbors” told Mr.Charley he had to head east to North Platte, Nebraska and visit the Golden Spike Tower home of the world’s largest railroad yard. We made plans to head that way, especially since Hurricane Harvey has devastated Texas and the Gulf Coast. So, we bit the bullet, and hit the road heading back to Sheridan, WY.
Here’s the last sunrise out of Helena, you can see how smoky it is:
And further up the road, the smoke is just terrible, you can’t even see the mountains in the background
One thing we saw along the way were burned areas along the side of the highway. I don’t know if these were from lightning strikes or idiots throwing out cigarettes, but there were numerous places along the drive that had some serious burns.
One thing I do love out here is the sights! You drive for miles and see such beautiful scenery, wildlife and even some random artwork. I thought this was a herd of horses and realized someone went to a lot of time and energy putting these up
And then, you look the other way and there’s a hot air balloon!
But nothing beats the beautiful BIG SKY!
Just a few more and then I’ll let you go:
And, this little thing is constantly wanting to come up front & sit on my lap
(Yeah, sometimes I let her)
We arrived in Sheridan safely. Tomorrow, we’ll head to Cheyenne, WY as we make our way back home.
Have a good one everybody, we’re sure trying to.
RV Riding is changing plans and making new ones all the time
