Where’s Elmo?

Indian Creek RV Park

Deer Lodge, MT

Did you know there is a town in Montana called Elmo? As we left Kalispell this morning, we went through Elmo, and quite a few other towns as we followed the Flathead River leading to Flathead Lake. That is one big lake!
We took a drive yesterday over that way looking for the Kerr Dam near Polson, MT. The Kerr Dam is a concrete gravity-arch dam on the Flathead River, increasing the size of Flathead Lake. If you get a chance, you must Google it, because the pics online are nothing what we saw (I guess they didn’t have the gates open ). It is amazing, though; and we did see a nice doe on the way out, so it wasn’t a total waste. We also had a nice ride & of course, I got some good pics.
This is Flathead Lake it is huge!

I love this sign! “Limp in & Leap Out”! Wish we could’ve gone there

This lake just never ended!

We finally found Kerr Dam Road, it was a long stretch up and around

This is where the river feeds to the dam into the lake

And this is the dam, needless to say it DOES NOT look like the pics online!

Not a total wasted day, look who came out as we were leaving

We drove down by the river side to see if we had a better view of the dam, but we didn’t….

These are the mountains we were meandering through, looks like hoodoos

Enough of that…..went back to Kalispell & took a nap before getting ready to head out in the morning.

Since we didn’t have that far to drive to Deer Lodge, we didn’t leave until 9 or so. After driving past Polson & Lake Flathead, we passed though numerous towns. One place caught my eye, a town called Drummond who’s motto is “Home Of The Famous Bull Shippers”. Needless to say, I didn’t see the whole sign, so again, I Googled it, ‘cause it didn’t look like “Bull Shipper” to me, but it was.
And, would you believe there’s a town that hosts the “Montana Testicle Festival!” The Testy Fest takes place in Clinton, MT. (LOL! Clinton! Somehow that doesn’t surprise me)
I can honestly say I had no idea both cherries and huckleberries were so prevalent in Montana. While we were in Alaska, I had some Bumble berry Pie, and while in Alberta, I had Saskatoon Crepes, so I guess I’ll need to try some Huckleberry Pie. I’ll try anything once (usually, well…..maybe)
Haven’t seen an old KFC Big Bucket sign in a long time, and I still haven’t gotten an A&W Root Beer float either!

It’s still pretty smoky out there

I do love these signs that give the native name & english
IMG_1124  IMG_1125
Some also give the actual native meaning (read the bottom)

I love this, they made a way for the animals to safely cross

This is the Clark Fork river that snakes along the way

It was a pretty nice ride today, other than the smoke in the distance from the wildfires burning, the scenery was nice. There was a little convoy of the Montana Hotshots that passed us along the way. God Bless them for fighting those fires the way they have for a while.

We’ll hang out here for a few days as we meander along through Montana until we need to be in Bozeman by the 25th for Mr.Charley’s eye shot.
Since it seems like forever that I’ve seen a sunset, I’ll leave you with some pics as I send hugs & good vibes to my babies. Meema loves you guys & misses you bunches! And, of course, Mr. Charley sends his hugs & love to his babies, too!

  1. The smoke jumpers museum in Missoula is worth a stop. We first had huckleberry ice cream at Jim and Mary's RV park.
