We Made It!

We have traveled nearly 4,000 miles & have made it to Dawson Creek, BC.....Milepost 0 of the Alaska Highway.
According to The Milepost, the first 613 miles/987 kilometers of the Alaska Hwy are in British Columbia (BC), designated as Hwy 97 North. It travels NW to the Yukon Border near Watson Lake, YT (Historical Mile 635). From there it continues as Yukon Hwy 1, crossing 577 miles/929 km Yukon to Port Alcan at the Alaska border. It crosses into Alaska at Historical Mile 1221.8 where it becomes Alaska Route 2. From this international border, it is 200 miles to Delta Junction, AK (Historical Mile 1422), the official end of the Alaska Hwy, and 296 miles to Fairbanks, the unofficial end of the highway at Historical Mile 1523.

I say all that to help understand the depth of this adventure. Years ago, when I said I wanted to go to Alaska, it was just something I felt like I had to do. I wanted to see the beauty & the wildlife. I was hoping to spend our 25th Anniversary on a cruise, but once that came & went, my hopes of going dwindled. A couple of years ago, after healing from my divorce, that urge started again. Being single wanting to do anything was going to either cost me extra or book me with a stranger. When I got a wild hair to drive it, I had no idea what I was getting into. When I started asking if anyone else wanted to go, they were either still working, or couldn't afford it. That's when Mr. Charley answered the call. Its been a long time coming & I can't wait to get there! (I'm really glad I'm not going alone & I'm sure my kids are too)

This is our Grand Adventure!  I hope to post as many pics as I can, but I'm already finding out not only campground Wi-Fi is "iffy", but the closer to Alaska we get, even cell service will be "iffy".

I hope you enjoy the ride with us! I know this will be a Grand Adventure!

(PS: My MiFi does not have unlimited data, that is why I keep getting messages about my data usage. Boy do I miss my little $15 mo unlimited DSL )

RV riding is opening your eyes to all the wonders our world has to offer & trying to figure out how to share them

  1. Make sure to do the timber bridge on the old Alaska highway. It's 17 miles out of town.
