On to Watson Lake, YT–Milepost 635

Well, to be honest with you, I never was good at geography or history (or the metric system).
Besides traveling through the U.S to get into Canada, I see how big "Canada" is. We have been through Alberta (AB) & British Columbia (BC)  and yesterday crossed into the Yukon Territory (YT).
The Alaska Highway crosses the BC-YT border 6 time before reaching the official border at Historic Milepost 627. BC Hwy 97 becomes Yukon Hwy 1 here and although we haven’t seen a grizzly bear yet (according to the Milepost we should watch for them),  we have seen at least 4 black bears, lots of bison & I saw a fox (but didn’t get a pic).

The further we ride the highway, the more I appreciate the phenomenal undertaking the Army Corp of Engineers took back in 1942. Pure wilderness, winding rivers, crossing creeks, climbing mountains in the crazy weather conditions is a true testament to the tenacity & grit of my parents generation. I don't know that my generation or my grandkids generation could do what they did with what they had. I'm learning the difference between "camping" &" RVing" and that's eye opening enough.

We’ve set-up in Downtown RV Park, right across from Kathy’s Kitchen, the Sign Post Forest and the Northern Lights Center. We decided we’d see a few things today since we got in so early & tomorrow we’ll take care of things (laundry, bathe the girls, etc.), but we did take advantage of the cell service !
The Sign Post Forest is just like it sounds, a “forest” of sign posts. IMG_7848IMG_7849IMG_7851
Needless to say, I could’ve spent hours wandering through, but Mr. Charley was happy to take pics from the truck. Check one off my list Winking smile

The other thing I wanted to do was see the Northern Lights Centre. Now that was spectacular! I think Mr. Charley slept through the whole thing, but I loved it! It reminded me of going to the Planetarium in Miami. According to the Milepost, this is the only planetarium in North America featuring the myth & science of the northern lights. Using advanced video & laser technology, it offers presentations on the aurora borealis inside a 100-seat “Electric Sky” theater. It was great! No pics, so you’ll have to Google it Smile
After that, I gave Mr. Charley a night off from cooking & we ate at Kathy’s Kitchen.

That’s about it here, tomorrow take care of some things & Sunday move on to Teslin, Milepost 804; then Whitehorse....then Alaska!

Have a good one everyone! Remember what Memorial Day is all about & be thankful for those who gave their lives for our freedoms.

RV Riding is truly appreciating the freedom to wander & see sights unseen
