Crossing the border

We left Shelby, Mt yesterday on our way to Alberta, Canada. After reading so much about crossing the US-Canada border in an RV, we were really stressed.

Let me back up to last summer when we went to Niagara Falls. Mr Charley & I both have a CWP (concealed weapon permit) & knowing Canada doesn't allow guns, we made sure we weren't carrying that day. (Since we were traveling in my Class C, we drove over in my car). Well, we were told to pull over & park so they could search our car! I guess our CWP had us on "the list" (or maybe it was a flashback of growing up in Miami) , but I was so nervous & scared I couldn't enjoy the rest of the day. We didn't have any guns, but I have a pocket knife & just knew they were going to arrest me for concealing that fact. (Like the 1st time I flew after 9/11 & they took my knife & lighter!)

We were concerned about crossing this time because of our food. Before we leave from SC, we go to the meat market & fill the freezer, and we sure didn't want them to take all that meat. There is a website that gives all the rules & regulations of what you can/can't bring in, but......you never know. If they did want to search that would've taken a few hours since they'd have to open the slides & look through everything. 🤦‍♀️  We don't have anything to hide, I think the anticipation of not knowing their interpretation of what is allowed had us anxious. I hate feeling that way. We are good, honest "senior citizens" on a Grand Adventure & felt like scared children.  I hate that today's world makes me feel that way.  The rainy, cold weather didn't help.

Anyway, it didn't take 5 minutes at the border. She asked a few questions (alcohol, cigarettes, etc) and we were on our way. 😅

We found our way to the campground, got setup and did nothing the rest of the day.  The girls have stayed "hunkered down", too.  Thank goodness Mr Charley takes such good care of us. He was in/out of that cold rain yesterday switching out the propane tanks & getting things fixed for us. And, he made us a good dinner (cube steak, peas, and rice & gravy). 😉👍 (I do the dishes, but the cleanup is  totally worth it)

Today we're heading to Calgary. We'll be spending a couple of days there so we can go to Banff, and I am REALLY excited. Not just the town if Banff, but the National Park. The rain has stopped & even tho it's cold, the high is supposed to get up to the 60's.  Hopefully tonight or tomorrow I'll have some real good pics from Banff! I also have Gypsy Guide apps for Banff & Calgary. If these are as good as the one for Yellowstone, it's going to be great!

Have a great day everyone, especially to all our babies at home 😘😘

🤔 RV riding is a little stress, lots of relief and still better than staying put 😉

  1. Glad your crossing went well. You might look at driving to Banff and taking the Icefield Parkway. We did that and it was gorgeous. We're here 2 days in Grande Prarie, so you're catching up to us.
