Dec 30,2020 Covid - New Years Eve Eve Gallstones!

I cannot believe this! I have gallstones! And....,,,it’s not like kidney stones, where you pass them and you’re done. Oh no.....I’m not that fortunate, the only way to get rid of them is to have your gallbladder taken out!
Let me back up and tell you what’s been happening. I’ve ALWAYS had a funny tummy. I don't do greasy or spicy because of it. Earlier in December I was in excruciating pain (upper right quadrant, pain radiating to back right shoulder) It was bad! After an hour or so it settled but I threw up quite a few times. It scared me (and Nicole) enough for me promise I’d find a Dr and have it checked out. I DON’T DO DOCTORS, but I respect the profession and know when it’s time to see one. I made an appointment and was lucky enough to get in by the next week. She checked me out, agreed it sounded like gallstones & sent me to have an ultrasound. That took another week. Then, it took another week to get the results, determining I do have gallstones. Well, I’ve beenfeeling ok by then, so I thought I must’ve passed them or whatever and we went on & did our Christmas on the 19th. Then Igot Covid & you know all about that. So, when I was feeling better last week and took the drive to look at houses (remember that?) I was hankering for a cheeseburger. Not just any cheese burger, I wanted a quarterpounder. I don’t know why, I just did. Mr Charley grills the best cheeseburgers and I knew I couldn’t go there, so I went to McDonalds drive through and got a quarterpounder (I should’ve gotten  a happy meal). Within the hour my tummy felt like a rock was sitting in the middle of it and it kept getting worse. By late in the afternoon I was in the bathroom wishing I had that Covid diarrhea just to give me some relief! It never came, but I did throw up and that felt a little better. The pain wasn’t excruciating, but it hurt and no matter what I did that rock wouldn’t get off my tummy! My homeopathic aroma therapy heated bean bag and some hot tea soothed it  enough so I could lay down and try to rest. I stayed put until I threw up again. I spent an hour in there sitting on astool waiting for the puke to come. It brought a little relief but that rock in my chest didn’t ease up much. I went and laid back down and tried to rest. Sometime in the middle of the night I woke up, and puked again and it was the nastiest, throat burning, bile tasting, violent heaves ever. (Sorry, TMI). But it brought the relief from that rock in my stomach that I needed. When I woke the next morning I promised Nicole I would call the Dr and get her to get everything set up to get this thing out so Ican get on with my life! Bless Mr Charley’s heart, he calls me everyday to see if I need anything, both of usknowing there’s nothing he can do. I hatewe’re stuck here in SC, but we both know we wouldn’t be any better off in FL. Wedo miss our snowbird friends, but Covid has put a damper on that, too.  So, now I wait to hear back from the Dr to see what’s the next step. I am resolute if I have one more attack, I will go to the ER and let them do what they want with me. Covid hospital guidelines or not. I guess the New Year isn’t going to go as good as I hoped. I know the Lord hasn’t finished with me yet, He’s just trying to besure I keep my butt here with my babies for now. I’m OK with that, I’m blessed to have babies that love me and are self sufficient, able and willing to take care of me. Thank You, Lord, I know there’s so many that don’t have that.

Just posting for posterity sake.

Dec 29,2020 COVID-19 - Day 9 or is it 10?

My #1 son in law, Brian and I have coexisted at opposite ends of the house for days now. We’re both feeling much better but I’m still weak and tired. He didn’t have tummy issues, he had a bad headache. I had that for a day and let me tell you all you want to do is lay down & close your eyes! I did lose my taste buds, which was my “a ha moment” that verified I did haveCovid (since I never “officially” got tested.  All in all, I know I’m lucky to have gotten through this mess as good as I did. I’m blessed and that’s a fact, a lot of others weren’t as fortunate as us. But I’m also relatively healthy with no underlying conditions (obesity, diabetes, COPD, high blood pressure, etc). I am blessed and I don’t take that for granted. I am the “caregiving child” of the family, so I don’t do sickness very well. I just lay there quietly and tryto sleep  it off the best I can. My body heals in sunshine & rest and since there’s been no sunshine (rainy & cold), all I can do is rest. Enough rambling! It’s taken me days to write this so if it’s scattered it’s just me trying to remember what’s been happening.
I’m getting cabin fever and decided to take a drive and look at some houses. My girls are pretty adamant about me moving back to Columbia. They don’t have a problem with Mr Charley & I traveling, but they do want me to have a “home base” here closer to Nicole. So much so, that Melanie was set to buy a condo for me to “rent” from her! That got me thinking I really need to get myself settled somewhere. I love the RV lifestyle, but SC isn’t as RV friendly as other states. My RV is not conducive to the RV lifestyle either. It’s a “destination” model, meaning it’s made to stay put, and as I said SC isn’t RV friendly.
This is a “destination” model, it’s a travel trailer (meaning it has wheels and can be towed) but it’s 40 ft long and heavier thanmost travel trailers, not made for constant hauling around. https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1AX8qL1pMfJIUtBPSrnvrdkCRxRtSdyAg
(No it’s not a “park model”, those are like mini stationary mobile homes). So, I’ve moved out of it, put it in storage and have been staying with my girls (Nicole in SC and Melanie in NC).  As much as I loved living in FL, I always knew I didn’t want to stay long term. I spent 5 years driving that 7 hour trip every time my Dadwas hospitalized and I swore to myself I wasn’t going to make my girls have that long distance worry. So, I moved out, put my place in storage in FL, rented a storage unit in SC and have been here since.
Now that I’m feeling better, I took a drive to check out some places. I’m not sure about the condo lifestyle, but I do like a maintenance free lifestyle. I’m just not sure what area to move to, Columbia has really grown! It’s also gotten expensive. I’ve already done the downsizing, I’ve been living in an RV for years, so I don’t need much, but I also have to cost justify wherever I decide. So, I’ll keep looking & see what’s best for me. Apartment, Condo, small home? I’ve already looked into buying a piece of land & moving my RV on it, but there’s zoning laws about RVs or “mobile”homes. Any maintenance free place is dependent on the management “maintainers” and I’m not very trusting of management.  I’ll figure it out, in the meantime, I’ll explore the Greater Columbia areas to see where I’d like to live. This Covid chaos doesn't help matters.
It’s almost New Years so we’ll see how that pans out.

Dec 25,2020 COVID-19 - Day 5 of Covid

It’s Christmas and Nicole, Brian and I are hunkered down at 808 Moss Creek Dr as we watch the world go by.
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1t44UGB0-3HpbNYdt4hKhB3IwNNdtxIJh

I’ve had no breathing problems, no fever, no congestion, but since this is my “sinus” season, I try to keep that under control. I don’t get a cloggy head and runny nose,I have post nasal drip, meaning it’s constantly running back down my throat causing me to clear my throat and gently cough to keep it moving on down & out. If I letthat get out of control I’ll get a clogged ear, sore throat and chest congestion. I say all that to say this, I didn’t think I had Covid. But then, the diarrhea kicked in and I was slap wore out. (my funny tummy doesn’t do meds very well) After 4 days of that I was coming out of it, but I got a bad headache. I just figured I was dehydratedfrom all the diarrhea, so I tried to drink my water, and a cup of soup, the broth soothed my tummy and gave me a little morestrength. I just laid in the bed and tried to sleep. My baby girl, Melanie gave me this for Christmas and it sure hit the spot for me. https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1n9Oc0HEtoiSSJfmmMbRxaLNPtcXfx2xY

Here’s a few more Christmas ornaments that I’ve seen to represent our 2020 Christmas

Happy Birthday, Jesus. I’m sure your “Christmas” this year was a lot better than ours.

Dec 24,2020 COVID-19 - Yep, I got it Day 4 of Covid

I think I mentioned previously that Brian tested positive for Covid. Nicole tested negative and I don’t see the point in getting tested since we’re all here together anyway. I’ve had what I thought was sinus (little post nasal drip, drainage & slight throatirritation), been taking sinus stuff & doing fine. And, as usual my body doesn’t do meds very well, so my tummy got messed up with diarrhea 🥴; which washes me out so I’m real tired & draggy. Sure am glad we have lots of toilet paper😂😂My head is clear, no breathing issues, no aggravating coughing (just a little dry hack). So, all in all, compared to the mess we had in Fl in the beginning of the year, this is nothing! I’m glad we were able to do our family Christmas early this year, but I’m afraid thePlatt family Christmas will be postponed for a couple of weeks. Here’s some of this years Christmas memory pics

Merry Christmas everyone! Praying for a happier New Year

Dec 21,2020 COVID-19 - Winter Solstice and the Christmas Star

Tonight is the best sighting time for the “Christmas Star”
The Winter Solstice, which takes place on Dec. 21 and marks the shortest day and longest night of the year.
It also commemorates the Great Conjunction, an event during which the two largest planets in our solar system – Jupiter and Saturn – will nearly overlap to form a "double planet”,
How rare is this occurrence? The last time a close conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn was seen by humans was 1226A conjunction this close isn't expected to happen again until 2080

Tonight's great conjunction — also nicknamed the "Christmas Star" — marks the closest apparent encounter of Jupiter and Saturn in nearly 400 years. The two planets will be closest to each other in the sky tonight, and may be viewed as one point of light, appearing only a tenth of a degree apart. They will remain in close alignment for a few days and will be easily visible to the naked eye when looking toward the southwest just after sunset.
So, I went out to look and I saw it! https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1FGsHCQbLLcc_ZU8FfqP9w_kfWte7NLig

You have to really look hard, but it’s up there (the little white dot up to the left of the palm tree) And, since I have my Star Tracker app, I also took a screen shot of the night sky through the app. https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1L9nV38Ly_AcvnjtHS3dLQ39kLoN7RRuN

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1ofqNc5wdb7ykrW9psZuzK7utqe9n6MQg

Pretty cool, huh!?! And, now that Brian has tested positive for Covid means the rest of Christmas is cancelled. I guess all this “sinus” mess is the Corona 🤷🏻‍♀️. Who knew?
Anyway, I’m just counting down til this year ends. It’s been a rough one. At least we were able to have our family Christmas this past weekend. Melanie and her family came to town &we had a good visit. But we forgot totake a family pic! Oh well, time together is the most important.
I love my babies. Thank You, Lord forall your blessings.

Dec 7,2020 COVID-19 - It’s a Month Before Christmas in 2020 ☃️

A poem I copied that sums it all up.                  It’s a month before Christmas, and all through the town,

People wear masks that cover their frowns.
The frowns had begun way back in the Spring,
When a global pandemic changed everything.
They called it corona but unlike the beer,
It didn’t bring good times, it didn’t bring cheer.
Contagious and deadly this virus spread fast,
Like a wildfire that starts when fueled by gas.
Airplanes were grounded, travel was banned.
Borders were closed across air, sea and land.
As the world entered lockdown, to flatten the curve,
The economy halted and folks lost their verve.
From March to July we rode the first wave.
People stayed home.  They tried to behave.
When summer emerged the lockdown was lifted.
But away from caution many folks drifted.
Now it’s November and cases are spiking,
Wave two has arrived much to our disliking.
             Frontline workers, doctors and nurses,
Try to save people from riding in hearses.
This virus is awful, This COVID-19.
There isn’t a cure. There is no vaccine.
It’s true that this year has had sadness a plenty,
We’ll never forget the year 2020.
And just ‘round the corner - The holiday season,
But why be merry? Is there even one reason?
To decorate the house and put up the tree,
When no one will see it no-one but me.
But outside my window the snow gently falls,
And I think to myself, let us all deck the halls!
So, I gather the ribbon, the garland and bows,
And I play those old carols, My happiness grows.
Christmas ain’t cancelled, and neither is hope.
If we lean on each other, I know we can cope.
Christmas 's not cancelled. It never will be
Because Jesus was born, to save you and me!

Dec 3,2020 COVID-19 - is still around A lot has happened these past few months!

Can you believe I still haven’t heard back from the bank! So, I’m over it! I’ve rented a climate controlled storage unit, moved all my “stuff” into it and put my place in storage on FL. In the meantime, I’ve stopped payment on my rig (I guess I’ll be hearing from them in a few months). I’m rotating time with my girls, getting ready for Christmas and most important thewedding was THE MOST Beautiful and Fun EVENT of the YEAR!!! Jordan looked absolutely stunning in her gown:

My girls were beautiful (as always) https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1LrS4mW44_ghAA9BkGvmWlYbNvmCsXAkb

Bryson looked handsome (as always) https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1o2ciB4Rfs9Gv63KOB5sLh1mBE8ANlsGx

Bobby looked like a million with “his girls”

Brian couldn’t have been any prouder

And, everyone had a great time! It was THE “Social Event of the Year” with dancing, the photo “booth”, outdoor S’mores and great food. The sparkler send off and old car drive off made a great ending to awonderful night.
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1LdGDWwIN9MPTx9QZ4FIzxTcysIqo3HMM

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1GLbwon46fQyTCNEUqYKfRshRQQhN1Da-

It was the best thing that happened in this entire chaotic mess of a year.

Stay tuned, there’s more to come!

July 9,2020 COVID-19- Decisions decisions

The chaos continues and I need to rethink my living conditions and financial situation. My IRA took a big hit when this chaos started, and although Andrew (my financial guy) has recovered most of it, I stopped taking monthly draws to help build it back up. The market is up and down like a yo-yo, so I am looking at the best way to cut my expenses. I MUST keep my car, no negotiation there. The only other thing I own is my RV and I really don’t own it. I can afford that payment, but when you add lot rent, electric and insurance,  the cost doesn’t justify the means. I still live in an RV, on blocks, not tied down, in FL, 7-10 hours away from my babies. I’ve sent a certified letter to the bank, begging them to renegotiate my loan, so they will release the title and let me sell it. Now, the waiting begins.

Today is July 25th, I still haven’t heard from anyone at the bank. Patience is not one of my virtues. I’ve left a voice message on Ricky Aubreys phone. He was the loan officer I dealt with at the Bank of the West (Essex Credit division). The next time I called a week later, I left another message for him. The 3rd time I called,  it said his mailbox is full and it transferred me to the “Corporate voicemail”. I still haven’t heard from anyone. I’m sure the automated threats will begin once they realize I’m only sending them $1 a month!
In the meantime, I will rent a climate controlled storage unit here in SC, have Mr Charley drive back to FL with me, rent a U-Haul truck & clear out my stuff.
If I haven’t heard from the bank by then, Iwill put my place in storage until I can sell it.

I pray it doesn’t destroy my credit. I’ve busted my butt to keep my credit good for many years. I’ve tried to do things right &I keep getting screwed.

Lord, I’m trusting you to help me get through this.

July 1,2020 COVID-19- It’s never gonna stop

I haven’t written for awhile mainly because this mess has dragged on for months now and I’m about over it.
We’ve done all the things they’ve said to do. Wash hands, sanitize everything, wear a face mask, self distance, yada, yada, yada. We’ve lessened (“flattened”) the curve, brought the numbers down and slowly started reopening things. Of course, once the rioters started, all those “precautions” meant nothing because “Black Lives Matter” and we need to tear down statues and destroy anything from our history that “offends”. And we mustn’t forget about defunding the police, because they’re all bad. I can’t believe how stupid things have gotten. I can’t believe they are allowing rioters to destroy everything. We have laws against rioting and looting. We have laws against defacing property. We have laws against destroying other people’s property. We have laws against all of this mess! We have our National Guard and Military, and Police and Swat Teams and good men and women who have sworn to protect and defend, but “they” won’t let them bring order.   I thought all the anti-Trump people would’ve woken up when they saw what an awesome job he & his task force did on the pandemic, but they haven’t. When he got that under control, they started with the protests and riots. Now that we’re about over that mess, the “numbers” are going back up and the Covid chaos starts again. Mandates to wear a face mask are being passed just about everywhere. Like a stupid face mask is going to “stop the spread” of the unseen virus. Everyone acts like a positive test result is the death of you. There is greater than 90% SURVIVAL RATE, what is the big deal?!?!? People live and die everyday with and from Cancer, Diabetes, Heart, Kidney and Liver diseases. Let alone Accidents, Suicide, Drug and Alcohol abuse. I could go on and on, but there’s no talking logic to the masses. Everyone has gone nuts!
I don’t understand why they hate him (Trump) and want to destroy our country. And, as much as I hate to bring “religion” into it, I have to admit, I’ve read “the back of the Book”.
The Book of Revelation (the last book in the Bible) talks about end times. It talks about how crazy the World is going to get before the Lord calls His children home. I believe in God. I believe in His Salvation through Faith. I know one day I will stand before Him and I will hang my head low because I have failed Him in so many ways. But, I do believe He loves me & saved me from the wrath & destruction He will spew on this World. I believe in the Rapture, when He will call His children Home before the destruction happens. That’s what I am placing my Hope & Faith on. If it’s true, then I will have eternal life in Heaven. If it’s not true, then Lord only knows what will happen.
In the meantime, I will pray for my babies, try to take care of myself, do what I can, when I can and Trust He will take care of me.
It’s the only Hope we have right now.

Stay safe, stay calm, wash your hands and pray for our world.

June 5,2020 COVID-19- The new normal and other new words

There’s all kinds of words used through this pandemic that I want to log.
These words and comments have become so commonplace that as we continuously hear them, our minds instinctively recognize them and unfortunately, adhere to the messages sent.
Words like, “Asymptomatic”; recognizing the possibility that anyone can be a carrier of the virus without showing any symptoms; thus the ability to infect others including our loved ones.  https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1EtbrNcV3FkSHFrM-g7OBDkhzOeuirIDK
“Social distancing” is maintaining a “safe” (6 ft) distance from everyone. This separation not only includes sitting outside with friends and family, it includes shopping lines, one way entrance/exits shopping aisles, etc.
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1zm2o9diRkPxPuloZLPCdyWF_qJyyJHsI

“Self quarantine” or “stay at home” is self explanatory, but basically means a 2wk “stay at home” after visiting other areas that may have been infected. Basically, a self imposed lockdown.
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1laAwIi1KpUWHp4-ViRU53sLwtPJukBEV

Wearing Face Masks is (to some), their new “normal”. Most businesses now require employees to wear one, and a lot require customers to wear one, as well. There’s a LOT of discussion (and confusion) on this.
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1vkI2pI4A4DAEkqp_emywPZ-tg5LWDr3g

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1BDhutyi85vYznFgvDVrYFBMEiZYOdESz
Wearing Hand Gloves - no comment on this (just wash your hands!).     Hand Sanitizer sales have gone off the charts and, how to make “homemade” if you can’t find any in the stores
(Aloe Vera gel & alcohol, I think)         Proper Hand Washing signs, videos and postings are everywhere. That little quickie water, soap, rinse method just doesn’t cut it anymore.

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1qyVfqr2lfzBwcZeXFVxUdppT97XWDxmr

Proper wiping down and disinfecting of counters, door knobs.                                 “The new normal” is used to stipulate the changes that have and will become the way we will now conduct business and live. (this scares me)
“Recoveries” are the positive numbers everyone seems to ignore. In all the numbers of cases vs deaths, those that have recovered far exceeded the odds.
Ventilators are the machines that most hospitals have a few of, but not the thousands that were projected as needed. (Now there are surplus that  are made, stored and sent around the world as needed). Recovery from the need for a ventilator is low, but possible.

Testing kits have been developed and designed to test if you are a carrier or have had it and have an antibody to the virus. A simple 15 minute test is now available that is much more comfortable than the original method of sticking a long swab up your nose.

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1gdbATDwcw53NmmKQ7tFNQRrzN7je8rbg

“Contactless” is another word that is thrown about. If you order anything that is delivered to your home, it is left outside so you have no contact with those who have delivered it. Of course, the desired way to receive it wasto wait until the deliverer left, retrieving the package (after disinfecting it by wiping it down or spraying it); wiping down all contents, discarding the delivery package. And washing your hands after. Strangely, Pizza places advertise “no touch and contactless” delivery once your pizza is prepared and placed the box. (Which I thought they always were once the pizza maker put it together and popped it in the oven, but who am I?).       https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1ePcft7CqA90UkLTuMGvo86gJGBWWXtcS

“Spit Shields” or “Sneeze Guards” arenow installed in almost every store to help protect the employees behind the counters. Most shops have even moved their card scanners outside of the sneeze guard so you can scan your own card instead of them handling it.

https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1nk2qLFtuS943RZ7Bv-Tu105bevD6NjBM

Although the pandemic chaos has been downgraded due to all the protests from Patriots who want to go back to work or reopen their shops; and the racial protestors in the George Floyd murder. (White cop killed black suspect previously wrote about).     The thousands walking in the streets takes away from the “social distance” mandates. And some stores opening vs not churches, etc has started trampling on freedoms that no one wants to lose.     And don’t get me started on the politics of the entire mess.

We can’t live in a bubble (Thank God we don’t have to)

I’m blessed, staying positive and trying to spend more time with my babies

Next goal is how to recover and survive from the chaos around us.
Stay calm, stay safe, wash your hands and pray for our World.

May 29,2020 COVID-19- They’re back in the streets again

The only time I do this blog is when Mr Charley & I travel. Since the coronavirus stopped the world, we put this years travel plans on hold.

We’ve been spending time with our babies. Just being able to hug them, sit and listen to them, watch them interact with their families has been more exciting and renewing than any roadtrip.

As the rest of the country “wakes up”, the unrest begins. As if there wasn’t enough chaos with Covid, now the rioters and looters are burning down businesses in Minneapolis.
A black man named George Floyd was being arrested after an employee at a grocery store called police to accuse him of trying to pass a counterfeit $20 bill. He died after pleading for help as a police officer used his knee on Floyd's neck to pin him -- unarmed and handcuffed -- to the ground. His death sparked outrage and protests across the country.

I’m not saying the police were right or wrong. I am not a judge. All I’m saying is protesting about injustice can be done without burning, looting and destroying businesses and property.

Even George Floyd’s family hasn’t asked for this.
Shame on us.
Humans haven’t learned one thing. As the World was healing through Covid-19, it only took days for humans to destroy it.

Forgive us, Lord. I don’t understand mankind, but I do know the difference between good & evil. I pray there is more good in the World than what the media is showing us. I know there has to be, for all our sake.

I will continue to look for the positiveand the good. I have to for my own sanity and survival.

Stay calm, stay safe, wash your hands and pray for our World.
